Knee deep in it

So you've probably been wondering where I am these days? I'm still alive but I've been focusing up on finishing up a large freelance project. Yes I do freelance once in a while. I was commissioned a few months ago and have been working on the project since than. This project has taken up a lot of my time and energy, so if I've seemed distant or drained it's only because this project demands so much out of me.

I usually avoid freelance for this reason, and I probably will in the foreseeable future (for a lot of reasons), but I thought this current project was a good deal. Does my ambiguous wording confuse you? It's meant to, because I can't specify anything about this project except that it's been a very long ride right now and when I'm done if have probably aged 10 years.

Due to the extent of this project I won't be doing any illustrations for February and I'm not sure if there will even be any animation. This is the biggest project I've ever worked on and it needs a lot of my attention so it could be the best it can be. I was really confident early on in the planning phase which may have led me to underestimate the amount of time I had to take on this project so as a result my own work will suffer a bit for this indiscretion. So instead of forcing myself to make less than quality work to meet the deadlines I've set up for my animations, I've decided it's probably in my best interest to delay my art until I've got this all sorted out.

It's not all bad though, there is a silver lining. I'm over the halfway mark for the project. While there's still a lot of work to be done I've also enlisted the help of a few friends to speed the process along. This would also be the first time I hire extra hands to get a project done. I'm usually into being a lone wolf when it comes to freelance because mo' money and all, but if I had done that for this project I wouldn't be done until like March or April.

That's more or less it for this week's blog, it's a bit of a downer and I hate to pause my projects but I've had to prioritize finishing this project as soon as I can so I can get back into my own stuff in a reasonable time frame. I have definitely learned a lot about myself and handling real large freelance projects so I won't be making the same mistakes in the future. Anyway, soon I'll be back to my chipper self with more animation. I hope you look forward to that and once this project is done, I hope you look forward to viewing this as well.
