Dual Screen Tech Has Me Excited

Intro

Welcome back readers. The last few years have shown us that tech companies are really investing in new ways to interact with their devices. There are many new categories of devices such as: wearables, virtual reality, augmented reality, biometrics, and so on. The category I am currently most interested in is dual screen phones. I think the other tech spaces are very intriguing, but I’ve always loved dual screen setups, and to have that power on the go is something that I think will be pretty convenient to have in the future.

It’s All About Potential

I am expecting the convenience of these devices to be their main selling point, because I can’t really see how they can be so much more powerful in such a limited form factor.  That’s fine by me because the function of such a device is what I’m interested in. As an artist, dual screens open up a new way for me to create while on the go. The form factor is akin to a moleskin notebook, and if the companies can take advantage of the size and maximize whatever power these devices are capable of, the potential for artists is going to be phenomenal.

The interesting thing about the form factor of these devices is that there seem to be two categories: flip phone and mini tablet. Both of these types of devices have a bunch of potential, but I think I prefer the mini tablet aesthetic. Imagining that one day I can take a device in the range of power of the iPad, fold it up and put it in my pocket will be amazing. That kind of device I can see replacing current tablet form factors (they probably won’t in actuality because of money, but functionally, there won’t be a reason to stick to the current designs I think)

These devices are still relatively young, in both hardware design and software design. Once they mature, I think they will be able to deliver some really great experiences. As the design and hardware language evolve, and the price to own decreases, I think a lot of artists are going to want to adopt these devices for productivity and creative purposes. Being able to draw on one screen, while using reference on another, or being able to doodle ones thoughts quickly, fold and put it in your pocket and keep going are just some use cases that I think will be very helpful for artists. Who knows what else the future will bring.

Outro

The evolution of technology is always exciting to watch. A future that gives us devices that maximize creative opportunity, and ease of use and flexible form factor is something that I think many people are going to want to jump on. Personally, I can’t wait until we get there.

Thanks for reading!
